After last year’s great success, Starlight is happy to announce another year of Theatre Camp.
This camp is designed to help emerging thespians hone their skills. To help you more fully understand this process, please watch The Demystification of Theatre Camp.
This year’s Theatre Camp cast will perform a 15 minute mini version of the musical Li'l Abner on the Starlight stage. Li’l Abner is based on a classic comic strip and takes place in the fictional town of Dogpatch, USA. The story revolves around the lovable Abner, who has been changed in mysterious ways after taking a powerful Yokumberry Tonic. When his town of Dogpatch is declared the “most unnecessary town” in America, Abner gets caught up in some unexpected and tricky situations. To learn more about this musical, check out this video clip. Filled with lively music, riveting characters, and unforgettable chase scenes, this music is one you won’t forget.
The Theatre Camp mini version will include individual speaking roles, solo singing, solo dancing, and some costuming along with amazing group numbers. In addition to working on the actual performance, campers will also have the opportunity to attend workshops that will teach them new skills. Last year’s workshops included costume design, stage makeup, character development, set painting, stage managing, lighting, and sound. This year’s workshops will continue to build on these skills and add a few new ones.
We’d love to have you along on our journey to Dogpatch, so come and join the gang!
